Not to get complacent after yesterday’s Ryzen 9 3900X CPU upgrade, UPS brought me a new GPU to pair with it. My old Sapphire RX590 will now enter a state of semi-retirement until I decide what to do with it and the old Ryzen 7 1700.
Out with the old.
I’m a fan (pun absolutely intended) of the more subtle looks on this 5700XT.
A couple of screws and two 8-pin power connectors later, installation was plug and play. I didn’t even have to mess with software, as I already had current AMD and Trixx software on my machine from the old card.
First impressions?
This card seems pretty beastly. Because my new 1440p/144hz monitor hasn’t come in yet, I’ve not done anything yet to actually stretch it’s legs much (and FOH hasn’t given it a WU yet). F12019 with all settings pegged to the max at 1080P benchmarks at 240fps. This should be a fine card for high frame rate 1440p sim racing. It also seems pretty quiet, but that may also be a function of me not having really challenged it yet. Load times are way quicker with the 3900X in the CPU socket.
Since my old 1080p/90hz monitor won’t let me do anything with my card that my RX590 wasn’t capable of, all she wants to do is fold. Now I just need some GPU work units to come my way this evening.

Nice setup. Can you keep the old card in the machine for folding?

That’s an idea I hadn’t considered. Off the top of my head, I’m thinking it might not work so well. It would take the PCI-E lanes down to 8X/8X instead of 16X, and I think it would probably mess with the airflow to 5700XT. I’m not sure half speed PCIE lanes and thermal throttling 5700XT would be worth it. It would also peg my 750w power supply to the limit (and likely a bit more), which doesn’t strike me a long-term strategy even setting aside energy usage .

Very nice! I got the RX 5700 after I got a 165htz 1440p monitor too! It is a sweet card.

I have a 5700xt and have had nothing but issues. My buddy also got a Red Devil 5700xt. The Drivers from AMD have been garbage and been issues...so I hope you are luckier than us.

So far, so good. I had an RX580 OEM blower card that was buggy on occasion, but I’ve had no problems so far with Sapphire AMD cards.

Wait: are you folding yet? If not, you cannot post any more replies about your machine and I am going to tell ITA97 to stop talking to you.

Don’t talk to that Azrek guy any more until he starts folding.

You make a lot of points. I will say, you pretty much walked yourself into getting a mobo, case, ram and PSU for that 1700x...heck you have a spare GPU after all.

That might happen. Take the overclock off of it and throttle the RX 590 back a bit to keep the power consumption a bit more reasonable and it could be something that I just left running 24/7.

I folded my towels just fine earlier today! So there!!!
I still have no idea how to properly fold a fitted sheet, so those are in a wad.

Same boat. It finally got sorted out a month ago and my drivers stay installed.
At least it’s better than my old Nvidia card where going past a certain update would cause the GPU to crash hard.

I have a AMD 5700 thats been giving me hard restarts, error 0000x116 “ I think” Did Guru3D display driver uninstaller, installed the latest driver, and updated windows.
Then the AMD software kept crashing and I looked it up and had to create a new value in the registry . Been fine ever since.
